Duplicate Ads Policy: Rules & Best Practices | dev.fiva.canada

Updated: July 4, 2025

We understand you want quick results when posting on dev.fiva.ca. We share this goal! To maximize your success while maintaining a positive experience for all users, please follow these guidelines:

Core Principle: One Listing Per Item/Service

Creating duplicate ads in single or multiple categories creates frustration within our community and diminishes visibility for all users. Instead:

• Select the single most relevant category for your item or service
• Use our search function to identify where similar items are successfully listed
• Optimize your single listing with detailed descriptions and quality photos

Automated Enforcement

Our systems actively monitor for duplicate content:

• Duplicate ads will be automatically flagged by our detection algorithms
• Subsequent duplicate postings may be blocked in real-time
• Repeated violations may trigger temporary posting restrictions

Regional Posting Best Practices

To maximize reach while complying with our policies:

• Local Focus: Post primarily within your immediate region
• Multi-City Exception: You may post in adjacent cities if you reside near jurisdictional borders
• Provincial Reach: Utilize our provincial search filters instead of multiple listings

Optimizing Single Listings

A well-crafted single listing outperforms multiple duplicates:

• Use precise location tagging to appear in regional searches
• Enable our "Delivery Free" option if applicable
• Refresh your listing every 30 days to maintain visibility
• Include keywords buyers might use in provincial searches

Service Category Requirements

For service providers, additional restrictions apply:

• Consolidate all service offerings within a single comprehensive listing
• Create service packages rather than separate listings for each service
• Use our "Service Types" tagging system instead of duplicate posts

Important Enforcement Notes

• We reserve the right to remove listings that degrade user experience
• Duplicate ads may be removed without prior notification
• Persistent violators may face account restrictions
• Our algorithms consider variations in title, description, and images when detecting duplicates

Why This Policy Matters

Maintaining a clutter-free marketplace benefits everyone:

• Buyers: Easier navigation and less spam
• Sellers: Reduced competition within categories
• Platform: Faster loading times and relevant search results
